How we bill

  • Flat fee

One price for a defined job, agreed in writing. Used for estate plans, formations, reviews, prenups and agreed divorces.

  • Hourly with a cap

For disputes and anything unpredictable. You get a written estimate and a cap we won’t pass without your OK. Billed in 6-minute increments.

  • Retainer

Hourly matters start with an advance held in our trust account. We bill against it monthly and refund what’s left.

Glossary

Legal terms, in plain English

Probate
The court-supervised process of paying a person’s final debts and passing their property to heirs after death. A trust can often avoid it.
Revocable living trust
A trust you control during your life and can change anytime. It holds your property and passes it to your beneficiaries without probate.
Operating agreement
The rulebook for an LLC: who owns what, who decides, how profits are split and what happens if an owner leaves.
Retainer
An advance payment held in a trust account and drawn down as hourly work is done. Unused funds are returned.
Mediation
A confidential meeting where a neutral mediator helps both sides reach their own agreement, usually faster and cheaper than court.
Conflict check
A quick search to make sure the firm doesn’t represent anyone on the other side of your matter. It happens before you share details.
Flat fee
One price agreed in writing for a defined piece of work, no matter how many hours it takes.

A document naming someone you trust to handle money or legal matters for you if you can’t.

Billing questions

No surprises

What does a flat fee include?

Everything described in your engagement letter: meetings, drafting, revisions and the signing. If the scope changes, we agree a new price in writing before doing the extra work.

Do you charge for phone calls and emails?

Not on flat-fee matters. On hourly matters, substantive calls and emails are billed at your attorney’s rate, but scheduling and quick check-ins aren’t.

Can I pay in installments?

Yes. Estate plans and formations can be split into two or three payments. Family law retainers can be replenished monthly.

Are court costs and filing fees included?

No. Government filing fees (for example, Utah’s LLC filing fee or court filing fees) are passed through at cost and listed separately on your estimate.
